Department of Natural & Cultural Resources Secretary Susan Kluttz spoke eloquently today to a packed room about the highs and lows of the campaign to get the Historic Tax Credits reinstated by the NC General Assembly. Sec. Kluttz acknowledged and expressed her thanks for the grassroots efforts by groups like the Historic Wilmington Foundation to convince elected officials about the importance of the historic credits.
This was HWF’s first fundraising luncheon, and the theme for the event focused on the neighborhoods and historic districts that the Foundation has worked diligently to preserve since 1966. One of the highlights was a presentation by 5th grader Zion Moore, who told the crowd about why he enjoyed his Tar Heels Go Walking experience in the 3rd grade. HWF provides trained volunteers to lead the tours during the fall semester, a collaboration with the New Hanover County school system.
“We think today’s event was a tremendous success, and we appreciate Secretary Kluttz coming to share the stories about the long road to achieve passage of the Historic Tax Credits,” said Executive Director George Edwards. Secretary Kluttz was presented with a Preservation Award by Board President Kent Stephens and George Edwards.
