Impact of Preservation High School Speech Contest
October 10, 2019 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pmFree
As part of HWF’s Preservation Weekend, join us to watch high school juniors and seniors address the question: Why does historic preservation matter?
Competing local juniors and seniors have just five minutes each to present answers to that very question at our 2nd Annual “Impact of Historic Preservation” high school speech contest! This event is FREE at Union Station at Cape Fear Community College in downtown Wilmington.
HWF has pledged nearly $2,000 in scholarship prizes to three winning students who must clearly, thoughtfully and eloquently explain why a select local landmark matters.
The three finalists of the speech contest will receive scholarships that may be used to attend any community/junior college, approved vocational school, or university or college in the United States. Scholarships are presented to the three finalists as follows:
1st Place: $1,000
2nd Place: $500
3rd Place: $250
The contest is open to students in good standing, presently enrolled in a New Hanover County, Brunswick County, or Pender County school as a junior or senior for the 2019-2020 school year. Student applications must be sent to HistoricWilmingtonContest@gmail.com by October 1, 2019.
